While my sister was visiting this past week we took a trip to Neuschwanstein Castle, right outside of Füssen, Germany. I normally avoid as many “tourist” activities as possible (I am not a fan of big crowds), but the photos of Neuschwanstein were just too magical to resist. We had to go and see for ourselves.
Neuschwanstein Castle is most famous for being the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle, and it truly lived up to its reputation. The castle is one of four (I believe) in the area. It’s easy to see why the location was such a popular place to erect a royal residence. The palaces are all nestled in the German alps just a few minutes from Austria, and the views are unbelievable. Neuschwanstein the newest castle, and certainly the most fairytale-esque. We had to battle through hoards of other tourists to get up to the castle, but it was totally worth it.
Following our trip we went into the nearby village of Füssen to meet up with one of Jeff’s teammates who was home for the holidays. He showed us around the adorable southern Bavarian town which was so picture perfect it could have been a set of a movie. We enjoyed a cup of glühwein and did some shopping in the little boutiques that lined the streets.
I chose a comfy and cute look for our trip. I wasn’t sure what the temperatures would be like or how much we would be walking, so I was prepared for everything. I kind of have a huge crush on pink right now, so this J. Crew sweater was the perfect way to add a little pop of color to my look. I added a pair of comfy jeans, flat boots (similar), and my favorite winter coat (love this) to stay both comfortable and put together.
I’m kind of hoping we take another trip to Neuschwanstein before we leave Germany – it’s just too darling not to!
