Let’s be honest: looking cute in the Winter is hard. Unless you have an endless supply of new coats in your closet, wearing the same old coat everyday can get boring. Since I live in Germany in the winter, I don’t have the luxury of brining over a ton of outerwear. I pack one hockey bag full of clothes for the hockey season (about 7-8 months), so I have to be selective with what I bring over. There’s 3 cold weather coats I pack every year, and that usually gets me through the winter. Even though that doesn’t sound like much, there’s things you can do to style your cold weather wear to keep your outfit cute and winter-ready. If you need some inspiration for the coming months here’s some winter outfit ideas to get you through the chill.
Full post: Hockey Game Style // OTK boots are one of my favorites in the winter. They cover the holes in my jeans and I can always layer warm socks underneath.
Full post: Easy Winter Style // Almost every time I wear a lighter coat in the snow, I layer it with a thick sweater. Most of the time there’s another layer under the sweater too.
Full post: Winter Neutrals // A beige coat is a must-have in any winter wardrobe! I’ve had mine for 5 years and it goes with everything! I would love to upgrade to a warmer version of this someday – the color is just so chic!
Full post: Snowy Prague // I love the pop of pink on this all neutral outfit. Colorful scarves are one of my favorite ways to accessorize in winter.
Full post: Current Uniform // This is an easy and cozy outfit for going from the house to the car. While I would be freezing walking around all day in this, the boots and hat keep you cozy for the few minutes you’re outside. I pretty much wore this exact thing to the gym everyday last year.
Full post: Camo in Winter // I love the idea of switching out a beanie for a fedora when the weather isn’t too cold.
Full post: Neuschwanstein Castle // The pop of burgundy from these gloves is so fun, and adding a turtleneck is a great way to keep your neck warm without a scarf!
Full post: Salzburg // I love a good athleisure look, and the combo of a parka and sneakers is one of my faves. It’s perfect for sightseeing on a cold, but not freezing, day.
Full post: Choker sweater // As you can see, I’m a big fan of this black overcoat! I layered it with a sweater, jeans, and OTK boots for maximum warmth!
General Cold Weather Style Tips:
Stick to classic coats in neutral colors. I’ve had two coats (one nude, one black) for almost 4 years. They still look modern and go with everything. I also recently bought a black parka (seen in my last post) which will last for years and will match everything.
Accessories are key. Jazz up your outerwear wardrobe with cute hats and gloves. It’s a great way to switch up the look of an outfit without having to buy new outerwear.
Winter boots can be cute. There’s so many cute warm-weather boots out there. Find a cute pair that go with everything.
Make outfits layer-able. When it’s cold AF outside (as it usually is in Germany), make sure to layer intelligently. I almost always have thermal tights on under my jeans and a tank or long sleeve under my sweaters. You can also try layering a button up under a sweater.
When in doubt, go with the warm option. I obviously love fashion, but staying warm should be the most important thing when you’re getting dressed for the outdoors. I used to suffer through chilly days in light jackets and I was sick all the time. Not a good look. If you follow these tips, you’ll be able to stay warm and healthy without sacrificing style.
A Note About Bloggers:
Bloggers have a tendency to make winter look warmer than it actually is. We love showing off new, cute clothes, but they’re not always practical for the weather. I’m totally guilty of this. If you see me wearing something like this or like this in the middle of winter, you better bet my photographer (aka husband 😉 ) has a camera in one had and my winter coat in the other. This winter I’ll be making a conscious effort to show more practical outfits you can actually wear out and about without freezing your buns off.
